A visual field exam is completed to detect dysfunction in central and peripheral vision. During this test you sit still at a machine, stare straight ahead, and acknowledge lights at various intensities at random points in your line of sight. This test will detect blind spots in your field of view, potentially indicating vision loss.

Once the test is concluded, a report will be generated which will allow the doctor to interpret your prognosis and determine a plan of action.

Patients who have a diagnosis of glaucoma or macular degeneration have visual field tests at least once a year.
