An optional photo of your eye will be suggested during your routine exam. An Optomap Retinal image can be performed in a matter of minutes. The Optomap is a large panoramic digital camera that is designed to obtain an image of the inside of the eye without pupil dilation.

The process is painless and quick! A technician will adjust the machine to your height, ask you to look into the machine, one eye at a time, and guide you through the process. The machine allows your eye to naturally dilate, thus capturing a wide, deep image of your eye.

The image allows the doctor to not only view the back and outer edges easily, it allows him to use different color lenses to view the various layers of the eye! In the past doctors would dilate the eye and make detailed notes about the findings. Today, they can refer back to the image and compare it with future photos.
